Chilean revolt

The things have changed since October 18th for people and, although it has tried to return to “normal” in these months, the conscience and desire to end injustices don’t change. I live in Parque Bustamante so protest marches and rallies are common for us. But since October the thoughts are not the same. Before you could hear “these young people who break everything” while “the guanaco” and the police chased the students that were running through the streets. Now the problem isn’t the young people but the government that steals, the repression and inequality. These are the topics of conversation that you can hear while the neighbors go to the barricades with their pans.
In a single day one can live many emotions. The week after Friday, October 18th, on the day I felt a sense pride when I saw thousands of people going to Dignity Plaza. There were so many people who walked the streets that the cars couldn't pass. This feeling of pride was coupled with the hope that things can be changed. At night the feeling were different. The amazement of repression, sadness and fear become dailies while the police advance shooting tear gas and we shout and play “cacerolazo” (pots-and-pans demonstration) with the neighbors. I have gone to some marches but I’m really afraid of the level of violence and repression that I have seen on social network and where I live.
Despite this, I think that things should change. Now I know my neighbors and I enjoy when I go to the neighborhood meetings to talk about the problems and the new constitution. I think the neighborhood organization will not end as soon as some believe, because, the proposals and the measures taken by the Government of Sebastián Piñera have been small to face the years of injustice. And this is which keep us talking, organizing and play “cacerolazo” at night while the police shoot and the people face them.
